I’ve been wanting to get rid of Comcast basic cable for quite a while. The issue is they give you a great combo with their bundles that include telepone, hi speed internet, and cable TV service. When customers try to remove one of these, you miss out on the savings of the bundle.

But the cable television service just has to go, as the channel selection and quality is well below average. With so much talk these days about high definition, there isn’t much choice with Charter cable television. So I started researching who else was providing service in my area.

I am fortunate to be one of the people who have been given a few options. Unlike some people who can only select from either the cable company or dish television, I have a third choice in my area. The old telephone company in this area has been upgrading their network. So now I have another consideration with Verizon and their FiOS service.

That doesn’t of course mean I won’t have similar problems. It would put me in the same boat as with the cable television company, because phone company want customers to package their TV setup with internet and voice service. If the service works out well, customers will be happy. Then again if the service is poor you are in the same situation that we all hate, being stuck with cable TV that isn’t all that great.

Most reviews I found on the internet are pretty good on telecom television service. Because it is brand new, there is sometimes a learning curve with a service like this, and some folks share their poor reviews. Some of those reviews are the quite amusing, simply for the reason customers make the decision to write a dissertation on their horrible experience and share it on the internet. Unhappy customers badmouth the company like it is some giant conspiracy to screw the customer, as if the company does not want our money!

Another way to go that I am seriously considering is of course satellite television. Because we have four TV viewers in our house, we have subscribed in the past to a high end cable television bundle. The satellite companies are fairly even, as the DirecTV Premier and the Dish Network Everything package are both right around $110 per month. Sure that’s fairly high for cable TV, but if you compare that to treating your family to supper and a movie, the entertainment value is comparable.
