When the Rangers acquired pitcher Brandon McCarthy from the White Sox prior to the 2007 season in a five-player trade that sent premiere prospect John Danks to Chicago, the Rangers were counting on McCarthy to contribute immediately and eventually mature into a top-flight starting pitcher, possibly even the ace of the staff. Injuries over the past two years have stalled McCarthy’s career. But if the past month of dominating performances in spring training is any indication, McCarthy appears ready to be a solid starter in 2009. He’s slated as the #3 starter in the Rangers 5-man rotation behind Kevin Millwood and Vicente Padilla.
The first basketball game to be played at the new Dallas Cowboy Stadium in Arlington will feature two powerhouse programs: the University of Texas vs North Carolina on December 19, 2009.
“The Cowboys want this venue to attract major sporting events and be a showcase for the region,” said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. “It is extraordinary to have the Tar Heels and Longhorns play the first basketball game in the stadium. I believe this college game could start a new tradition and may produce a new rivalry between two superior teams and conferences.”
The Cowboys unveiled the first completed suite at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. From leather walls to Brazilian granite to Italian limestone to custom leather furniture and catered gourmet foods, each of the 300 suites inside the state-of-the-art building will be a luxurious taste of the suite life.
Charlotte Jones Anderson, Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President, served as tour guide and hostess for the first look at a Silver level suite which, at 700 square feet, holds 18 guests and cost $175,000 per year.

”Futbol”, not American football, will be the first sporting event held at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. Only July 19th, a CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer quarterfinal double-header will be played in Arlington. The Gold Cup is a 12 country bi-ennial tournament which crowns the soccer champions of North and Central America as well as Caribbean countries.
“Our first sporting event ever in our new building will be the Gold Cup quarterfinals and we’ll have four teams that will come in and play on July 19th,” said Charlotte Anderson, Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President. “It’s all of the North American, Central American, and Caribbean national teams. We don’t know which teams specifically will be here yet because it’s a tournament and the countries have to win and advance through the tournament all the way to the quarterfinals. I think it’s great because it’s our first big international event to hold here. We’ve always said that this is an international facility and this proves that we can accommodate these types of events.
