Why Traditional Diets Fail Every Time

Have you tried virtually every diet you can think of, but still looking for one that works? Why is it that so many diets fail? It’s incredible how many people still teach the myth that dieting by eating less will help with weight loss. In reality when we cut down on the food we eat we are more likely to remain the same or even gain weight. As humans we are designed to regard reduced food consumption with starvation. By reducing the quantity of food we eat we trigger our body’s starvation preservation mode.

All the weight loss studies show that normal weight and healthy people usually eat have diets that contain more complex carbohydrates (like veggies, pulses etc) and most people who are overweight follow diets that are high in fat and starchy carbs. Understanding what studies tell us about what contributes to weight loss is important when designing a weight loss plan. One of the best ways to lose weight is to start a low GI diet where you closely monitor the amount of carbohydrates you consume every day, but are not too concerned about the other foods. You should however make sure you don’t overeat, by keeping your portion sizes down, and make sure you get the right proportion of healthy nutritious foods which should also be low in saturated fats.

Lifestyle and eating habits contribute greatly to gaining weight and the weight gradually crept up over time rather than overnight. As the weight gain didn’t happen overnight, it will also take time to lose weight in a healthy fashion. People who don’t understand the balance between a healthy diet, ensuring you get enough water, exercising and getting proper amounts of sleep are easy pickings to the marketing companies pushing the latest fad diet, diet pill or quick weight loss program. All it takes is a quick browse round your local newsagent to find the latest fad diet or weight loss plan. As we live in a world where we want everything now, it is easier to believe that there is a magic pill, drink, or program that can take the excess weight off quickly, than to conceive that we have power to change our lives and live a healthier and longer life where obesity is behind us in the past.

Most diets are doomed to failure because they do not teach you to build a healthy balance within your body. Most diets will fail because they are structured towards making the promoter or some company money instead of structuring a weight loss product or system that will genuinely aid an individual to lose weight.

It’s widely documented that those who are obese are more likely to succumb to diseases and other serious health problems due to obesity. Excessive fat and processed carbs in your diet is one of the major reasons for excess body fat.

For too many years people have been instructed that they need to eat a lot less or watch every last calorie before they can burn off excess fat. The truth of the matter is that our bodies are very proficient when it has to manage weight if we give them what is needed it needs to stay healthy - such as proper amounts of sleep, drink enough water, wholesome and nutritious foods, and some regular physical exercise.

Getting rid of those extra pounds is not only about watching what you eat, you also need to avoid eating in excess. Healthy portions of wholesome foods are one key to losing weight. Another vital aspect to weight loss is to make sure you get plenty of exercise. Our bodies were made to move!
